Nine people were killed Sunday, November 1, when a private business jet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, prompting a federal investigation into what caused the aircraft to go down. All nine people aboard the Learjet 60 died in the crash.

The aircraft went down near the Cresthaven community at approximately 12:50 p.m., according to preliminary information from the Federal Aviation Administration. The jet had departed Austin, Texas, and was traveling to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when the crash occurred.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s final moments, including reports of flight difficulties and a rapid descent before impact. Severe weather conditions, including possible icing and turbulence, are among the factors being examined, although authorities have not established what caused the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with assistance from the FAA. Investigators are expected to examine available flight data, aircraft maintenance records, weather conditions, and other evidence to reconstruct the events leading to the disaster.

The crash has raised concerns in the surrounding residential community as authorities work to document the damage and determine whether anyone on the ground was injured. Federal investigators have not announced a definitive cause, and their findings could take months to complete.
