Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind Claude, has taken a major step toward becoming publicly traded, filing paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering that could become one of the largest in Wall Street history. The proposed listing would give investors an opportunity to buy shares in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI companies.

The San Francisco-based company filed its registration statement on October 26, revealing extraordinary revenue growth as businesses increasingly adopt artificial intelligence for software development, research, data analysis, and other professional tasks. Anthropic plans to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT, although the offering price, number of shares, and trading date have not been finalized.

According to its SEC filing, Anthropic generated approximately $16.3 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2026, compared with about $1.16 billion during the same period a year earlier. The company also reported an operating loss of approximately $693 million and a much larger net loss of $80.7 billion, driven primarily by noncash accounting adjustments associated with its financing arrangements. The figures illustrate both the enormous commercial demand for AI and the financial complexity of building the technology at scale.

The potential offering comes as technology companies race to expand the computing infrastructure needed to develop and operate increasingly powerful AI systems. Anthropic faces substantial expenses for data centers, cloud computing, specialized chips, and research, even as its Claude platform attracts business customers. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are identified in the company’s offering announcement as contacts for obtaining the preliminary prospectus when available. The offering price, share count, and final valuation have not yet been announced.

The Readovia Lens

Anthropic’s arrival on the public market could become an important test of how investors value the next generation of artificial intelligence companies. Its rapid growth demonstrates the commercial opportunities surrounding AI, but its expenses and continuing operating losses also highlight the challenges ahead. For Wall Street, the offering could help establish whether expectations for the industry’s future earnings can support the extraordinary valuations being discussed today.
