Everyday Essentials Could Cost More in 2027 as Manufacturers Confront Rising Expenses

Major consumer brands are warning that Americans could face another round of price increases in 2027 as rising energy, transportation, and raw material costs put pressure on companies that manufacture everyday household products, groceries, and personal-care essentials.

Companies including Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Reckitt, and Unilever have signaled that higher operating costs could force additional price adjustments. The warnings come as many households continue struggling with expensive groceries and other necessities, leaving manufacturers with difficult decisions about how much of their rising costs to pass along to consumers.

Procter & Gamble, the company behind Tide, Pampers, and Pantene, recently increased its projected fiscal 2027 profit impact from higher commodity, energy, and transportation expenses to approximately $1.4 billion, up from an earlier estimate of $1 billion. Unilever, which makes Dove personal-care products and Hellmann’s mayonnaise, also expects price increases to accelerate during the final quarter of 2026 and continue into 2027.

Higher energy prices and disruptions associated with the conflict involving Iran have increased the cost of producing, packaging, and transporting consumer goods. Companies are facing additional pressure to protect profit margins, but raising prices carries risks as shoppers increasingly compare brands, reduce discretionary purchases, and turn to less expensive store-brand alternatives.

The challenge for manufacturers is that consumers have already endured several years of elevated prices. Some companies are responding with promotions, product changes, and selective price adjustments rather than broad increases across their entire product lines. For American households, the latest warnings suggest that relief at the checkout counter may remain uneven, with additional increases possible on familiar products throughout 2027.
