YouTube is preparing some of its biggest changes in years, using artificial intelligence to reshape how videos are created, tested and even shown to different viewers.

The company unveiled the changes at its Made on YouTube 2026 event this week. One of the biggest is video A/B testing, scheduled to begin rolling out in 2027. YouTube already allows creators to test different titles and thumbnails, but the new feature goes much further: creators will be able to upload and test as many as three different cuts of the same video. That could mean trying different opening hooks, edits or structures and letting actual viewer watch time help determine which version performs best.

YouTube Studio is also becoming more like an AI-powered creative assistant. Creators can get feedback on videos before they are published, including suggestions involving pacing, structure and storytelling. YouTube is also introducing dynamic thumbnails, which can show different thumbnail images to different groups of viewers instead of selecting a single winner for everyone. AI tools will even be able to review older videos and suggest new thumbnails that could help bring them back to life.

Viewers will see changes of their own. Custom Feeds will allow people to describe what they want to watch — such as videos for a morning commute or a particular hobby — and create personalized feeds that continue updating. Ask YouTube is also becoming a more conversational way to find information inside videos, while AI-powered tools increasingly match individual viewers with specific content.

YouTube is also bringing AI directly into video production. Conversational editing will allow creators to give simple instructions to rearrange clips, trim pauses or synchronize edits with music. Taken together, the changes point toward a platform where creators can test not only how a video is presented, but parts of the video itself — while YouTube increasingly personalizes what each viewer sees.

Video A/B testing may be one of YouTube’s most important creator changes in years. Testing a thumbnail helps determine which picture gets someone to click. Testing different cuts can help determine which version keeps them watching. That moves optimization directly into the video itself and could change how creators plan, edit and publish content once the feature begins rolling out in 2027.
